A Resilient Scottish Zine Community: Disabled Makers Commission
As part of our project A Resilient Scottish Zine Community, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Glasgow Zine Library is commissioning two new zines/DIY publications.
We are looking to commission two disabled zine-makers to create one zine each - these zines can be about anything meaningful to applicants and they do not have to be in the English language. We encourage submissions from people outside of Glasgow and Edinburgh. All proposals are welcome!
If selected, you will get:
£350 for you to use to cover any research and development costs, including your time
£150 towards printing costs
Induction into the Glasgow Zine Library catalogue and facilities
Ongoing access to Glasgow Zine Library throughout the research and making period, and in-person or online support from the team
Free tickets to events programmed by Glasgow Zine Library
£250 for a launch event held online or at Glasgow Zine Library
We will be looking for a creative idea and a commitment to getting it turned into a zine by end of October, with a view to hold a launch date in November. Applications won't be judged on previous zine-making experience.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: Friday the 14th August at 5pm
SUBMISSION INFORMATION:
We want to encourage applications from those with all levels of zine-making experience, whether this will be your first zine or your thousandth. We will be hosting an online workshop in on July 14th for people interested in applying who may not have experience making zines or filling in applications for creative opportunities. You can find out more about the workshop here.
You can provide a written, video or audio submission. You can also submit a proposal in an alternative format that suits you better, such as an annotated moodboard or sketchbook and notes. All we ask is that your submission is legible and it is clear how it is intended to be engaged with. You can also request a conversation.
If we can make this process more accessible for you, or you would like more information, please get in touch at collection@glasgowzinelibrary.com or drop in when the library is open (Fridays and Saturdays, 12-6pm).
