Intro to Sound for Animation

  • Glasgow Zine Library 32-34 Albert Road Glasgow, Scotland, G42 8DN United Kingdom (map)

Please note: this event will be held in person.

Join us for a hands-on experience in adding sounds to animation and creating new experimental noises to make things even more animated!

Bring yourself - everyone is welcome. In the introduction to the workshop everyone will be given an animated fragment to add sound to so then later, when we animate our own sequences, we can confidently experiment while already knowing the basics.

All materials provided - but if you can bring your own phone, tablet, or laptop with Stop Motion Studio installed, that’s helpful! Otherwise we can share <3

Unsure what to pay for Pay-What-You-Can events? Find our guide here.

Please note: we can only issue refunds requested 72 hours before the workshop begins.

About the facilitators:

L.T.Leif is a Glasgow-based/Canadian artist and musician. They run the GZL Animation Club with a group of likeminded DIY experimenters. They also host occasional variety-show style events with their collective Cozytown Live, and their music is released on Lost Map Records, where they also present visual works. Leif has worked as the Programming Director of The Quickdraw Animation Society and GIRAF International Animation Festival, supporting the creation and presentation of independent and experimental animation. This was in Calgary, Canada, where they also ran Choose Yer Own, a community-based festival where anyone could do anything, and played in many bands. Leif believes in silliness, authenticity, attention, and the power of the amateur. They love experimental making of all kinds. Animation holds a special place in their heart for its accessibility, unpretentious nature, and magical potential.

Karolina Glusiec is an artist and educator based in Glasgow. Her animation work uses various techniques, often self-invented or experimental. Music is an important part of her practice - she has performed animated live visuals for live music acts across the UK and Europe. Karolina has been running dept.con.temporary artist initiative and community gallery together with Jamie Temple since 2021, and Daydream Nation screenings since 2024. Karolina’s animation “Velocity” won the award for Best Animation in the Ann Arbor Film Festival, the award for Best Director at Vienna Independent Shorts, and The Jerwood Drawing Prize (2013).
