Please note: this is a 3 week course and the ticket prices include the full 3 sessions. It will take place in person at Glasgow Zine Library.

A hands-on introduction to DIY animation! In this three-part series we’ll explore animation techniques, tricks, and history, with a focus on independent and experimental approaches. Over the 3 weeks you will be introduced to a variety of animation styles and interesting animators, learn some collage-based and hand-drawn animation techniques, and learn editing basics. No previous experience necessary, this workshop aims to set you up to keep exploring. The course will run on these dates:

Sunday 15th March: Time is not Time

Intro to the principles of animated movement

Sunday 22nd March: Shape is not Shape

Morphs, movements, and transformations

Sunday 29th March: Any way you get there

Transitions, loops, basic editing, and finishing your animation

** Each 1.5 hr teaching session is followed by 1.5 hr optional working time with Leif **

To be able to progress through the course, you will need to attend as many sessions as possible.

About the facilitator:

L.T.Leif is a Glasgow-based/Canadian artist and musician. They run the GZL Animation Club with a group of likeminded DIY experimenters. They also host occasional variety-show style events with their collective Cozytown Live, and their music is released on Lost Map Records, where they also present visual works. Leif has worked as the Programming Director of The Quickdraw Animation Society and GIRAF International Animation Festival, supporting the creation and presentation of independent and experimental animation. This was in Calgary, Canada, where they also ran Choose Yer Own, a community-based festival where anyone could do anything, and played in many bands. Leif believes in silliness, authenticity, attention, and the power of the amateur. They love experimental making of all kinds. Animation holds a special place in their heart for its accessibility, unpretentious nature, and magical potential.
